Originally from Miami, FL, Coach Cruz was a multi-sport athlete, playing football and running track throughout high school. He continued his athletic career at Webber International University, where he focused primarily on football while also competing in track. His events included the 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, and both the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.

After redshirting his final year, he graduated with the goal of transferring to a higher-level program or pursuing a career in the NFL. Determined to chase both, he trained independently under the guidance of coaches from Florida State and Ole Miss, gaining valuable knowledge and experience that would later shape his coaching approach.

He competed against elite athletes, including Nike-sponsored runners and Olympians, at events hosted by the University of Miami and the University of Florida. Eventually, he chose to focus on football full-time, but when his son was born, he stepped away from the sport to prioritize his family.

Now, Coach Cruz brings that same drive and dedication to his athletes as the Middle Distance Coach for 813 Elite Track and Field. He’s passionate about developing young talent, including his own children, and is constantly learning and evolving in his coaching journey. He’s proud to be part of a team that values growth, commitment, and community.
